Sanrio fans, get excited. America’s first-ever Hello Kitty Café Pop-Up just opened in Orange County last month. As soon as I read about it on Refinery29, I knew I had to go.
Located at Irvine Spectrum Center next to the famous ferris wheel, this adorable eatery is far from your average food truck. Brightly decorated with all-pink everything, it features a walk-up counter and small patio where you can sit and enjoy tasty, one-of-a-kind themed treats.
The café serves sweets such as miniature cakes, pies, cookies and macaroons, as well as specialty drinks and Portola-brewed coffee. I ordered my go-to cappuccino, which was topped with the cutest Hello Kitty latte art. I also ordered a box of macaroons and HK’s signature bow cookie.
Sitting under the pink-and-white striped awning, I debated for a while about whether I actually wanted to EAT these desserts (I wish I could just keep them on display in my kitchen). In the end, my sweet tooth took over and I have to say, it was well worth it.
Whether you’re a fan or not, the Hello Kitty Café is too cute to resist. Although it is a pop-up concept, it will remain at Irvine Spectrum for the next year, so you have time to plan your visit.
