THE STATEMENT SLEEVE

From bell and balloon to ruffled and tied, sleeves have taken a new shape this season, turning our once basic button-downs and off-the-shoulder tops into true statement pieces. I was a little wary of this trend at first, thinking it could totally throw off my petite figure—but boy was I wrong. Once I tried it, I instantly knew why so many fashion it-girls were backing it—it’s the perfect way to add some personality to your everyday looks without going too over the top (pun intended).

Of course, there are some dramatic styles that might have a little more volume than I’m comfortable with, but those can be saved for the true style risk-takers. I prefer something a little more subtle and feminine, like this top from Zara. It instantly dresses up my casual denim and mules look, making it perfect for both work and weekend activities. Pinstripes, ruffles and an off-the-shoulder design—it’s basically a wardrobe essential at this point. I don’t see this trend going anywhere anytime soon, so I think I’ll be investing in some more statement sleeve tops in the coming months.
